Alaem's Sunset

As you wander further into Shadow Rose's caverns, you find the temperature increasing. You wave your hand in front of your face to cause a breeze, and you begin to take off extra clothing while walking. And yet, despite these precautions, you still find yourself covered in sweat within a mile of the entrance to this cave. Strangely, despite the heat, Grass grows green and abundant below your feet. New saplings sprout here and there around you, and the entire area teams with life. You feel almost like you are in a forest, despite the fact that you can see the cave walls around you. Ahead of you, a small stream trickles down from the cavern wall, and seems to make a line across the middle of the hallway.

Reaching a bend in said cavern's hallway just past this stream, you pause, feeling slightly uneasy about going on. However, you know that Shadow Rose would never hurt you.... You hope... so you decide to go on. You take the final step around the corner, and the searing heat blasts you in your face. Yelping in pain, you fling yourself back into the relative coolness of the previous hallway. Brushing at your face, you quickly make sure your eyebrows are still there, and then take a couple seconds to cool your face and hands off with some of the water from that stream. 'How conveniently placed...' You think to yourself while easing the pain in your slightly burned hands. While you are grumbling to yourself, a being sneaks up on you.

"Greetings!!" It pipes up from behind you. The voice sounds almost like dead leaves crackling in a fire, and you shudder viciously while you spin around in surprise. "You should have known better than to try to enter the Storm without a guardian! Don't you people know anything?! The line is there for a reason!!!" You are faced by an odd fairy... a.. fire fairy. Just what you need. "Now here...!" You start to say, but the Fairy quickly cuts you off. "Nah nah nah!! No arguing now! If you want to see the dragon, then just smear this salve," She points to a HUGE bucket of some greasy stuff over to the side of the water, "All over your body, and then you will be flame retardant." Bristling, you say, "HEY! Who's Retarded here?!?!" The fairy looks at you in blank shock for a little while, and then begins to giggle. "My oh my... Retardent, my dear... not retarded..." Soon her giggling turns to laughter, "Though.. if you are so worried about it....." Her speech is cut off by her laughter as she dissapears into a small flickering flame, and then her laughter is cut off when that flame turns to smoke and flits away.

In embarrassment, you slink over to the bucket and cover yourself with the weird smelling retardent stuff. Amazing, it dries within seconds, and you can't even tell that it's there. No greasy stuff, no hardening.. nothing. Wondering if you have enough on, you start towards the bend again. Eyeing the curve, you slowly scoot around the corner. First one finger, then one hand, then an arm. You feel nothing. Maybe you aren't around far enough? You sneak your head around the corner, and come face to face with the fairy again.

"BUAHAHAHAHAAH!!!" The fairy falls to the ground in laughter, and is quickly snuffed out again. You glare at the smoke where she used to be, and then you look up. You still don't feel the excrutiating heat from before, and yet, before ouy is a wall of solid fire. So hot that it's almost pure white, flecked with red, orange, yellow, and bits of blue. You gawk in amazement, but suddenly find yourself being pulled towards it. You try to turn around to run, but the flames are sucking in the air around you faster than you can move. Since this fire is so large... it's powerful enough to pull you in as well. As you get closer and closer, the air around the fire turns into little vortexes and whirl winds. You spin relentlessly through these storms, and then SLAM into the Wall of Fire. You twist and turn, and tumble, and your clothing seems to steam a little, though you still feel no pain.

Finally... you BURST through the wall!!!! Again you are tossed and tumbled through vortexes of wind from the fire's passing, but eventually you find yourself sitting on the charred ground about 50 feet from the fire. Looking back over you, you see the fire still blazing... but a sort of peacefulness has over come you. You feel almost purified by the fire. Smiling to yourself, you begin to wander through this charred land. After all, it appears that the forest begins again in about another mile. You Happily trot yourself over to the forest, and breathe in the cool clean air. You had no idea how seared your lungs had felt until you reached the cool and wet air of the forest. You flop yourself down in the grass....

And hear an indignant "SQUEEK" come from beneathe you.

You quickly jump up and turn around, finding the fire fairy there in the grass... smooshed into a fairy shaped hole in the soft soil. You stare in open mouthed shock for a couple seconds, and then the vision hits you. You begin to giggle.. snorting at first with supressed mirth, and then just letting the laughter flow from your mouth in gasping whoops. The fairy removes herself from the dirt, and glares at you in indignation. Screaming at you to stop laughing at her, she turns into a whisp of smoke and flits away. Still giggling you try to follow the smoke, but soon you are laughing too hard with the memory of her cute little face smashed into the ground, that you can't go any further. Your laughter howls through the forest, and it's many a minute before you can get it back under control.

Gasping for breath, you look around you, and find yourself almost face to face with a large baby dragon. Scrambling to your feet, you back away from the dragon quickly, hoping you hadn't damaged it while you were squirming around. It's one of the oddest dragons you'd ever seen before. It had a beautiful rainbow colored body, and large red red wings. The dragon looks at your curiously, but doesn't say a word. "Erm.. uh.. Hello." You say to it. In the background, you can hear a wooshing sound, kind of like a lighter trying to light. The dragon say nothing, but continue to looks at you as if you are a curiousity in and of itself. "Ermm.. uhh.. I'd stay away from this field if I were you." You say to the dragon. This field smells highly of gas. If this dragon has any fire in him at all, this would be a VERY dangerous place to be, indeed! The hatchling however, simply smiles at you. His smiles has a hard, and rash gleam to it. Snickering, the little dragon darts into the field behind him, yelling back at you.

'Come get me little human!!!' You dart into the field after that hatchling, trying to save it from this place. However, fire is starting to ignite around you! Puffs of gas are starting to light themselves! You must save that hatchling! However, the dragon appears to be running helter skelter through these fields. Or maybe it's NOT helter skelter. Every time fire starts, it's always just between yourself and this creature. It always misses him, and always seems to light right in your face. You're deffinitly going to be missing those eyebrows now. After so long of this, you finally decide to give up. Returning to the safe path, you collapse in exhaustion and let the dragon take care of itself.
